<idPurp>Combined dataset of all NMU routes near the central section of the A9. Formed from PW Cad file: A9P0C-CFJ-ENM-X_ZZZZZ_ZZ-M2-RD-0001 (P03.1)
This data is designed to be categorised by the column "Route Type". The Source for each type of route is:
Sustrans NCN7 (Off Road)
The National Cycle Network (NCN) is the national cycling route network of the United Kingdom, which was established to encourage cycling throughout Britain, as well as for the purposes of bicycle touring. It was created by the charity Sustrans who were aided by a £42.5 million National Lottery grant.
National Cycle Route 7 (or NCR 7) is a route of the National Cycle Network, running from Sunderland to Inverness.
Information originally supplied by Jacobs from PES data collation in CAD form. Verification (November 2014) of the NCN routes checked against the following online mapping system, which defines if the NCN routes are on or off road:
http://www.sustrans.org.uk/ncn/map Sustrans NCN7 (On Road)

The charity Sustrans identify and promote such routes particular for that type of biking.
Information originally supplied by Jacobs from PES data collation in CAD form. Verification (November 2014) of the NCN routes checked against the following online mapping system, which identified a mountain bike trail in the Central Section:
http://www.sustrans.org.uk/ncn/map CNPA Core Path
Core paths are paths, waterways or any other means of crossing land to facilitate, promote and manage the exercise of access rights under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003, and are identified as such in access authority core paths plans. Cairngorms National Park are the access authority for the vast majority of the Central Section Study Area. Information originally supplied by Jacobs from PES data collation in CAD form. Verification (November 2014) of the paths checked against the following online sources:
http://cairngorms.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/CorePathsPlanFinal150727.pdf

PKC Core Path
Core paths are paths, waterways or any other means of crossing land to facilitate, promote and manage the exercise of access rights under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003, and are identified as such in access authority core paths plans. Perth and Kinross Council are the access authority for a small part of the Central Section Study Area – south of Drumochter Pass. Information originally supplied by Jacobs from PES data collation in CAD form. Verification of the paths checked against the following online mapping system:

THC Core Path
Core paths are paths, waterways or any other means of crossing land to facilitate, promote and manage the exercise of access rights under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003, and are identified as such in access authority core paths plans. The Highland Council are the access authority for generally parts of the towns that are outwith the Central Section Study Area – for example parts of Dalwhinnie and Kingussie that are the opposite sides of the towns of that of the A9. Information originally supplied by Jacobs from PES data collation in CAD form. Verification of some of these paths (in areas that are more likely to be affected by the dualling) checked against the following online sources:
http://www.highland.gov.uk/downloads/download/198/core_paths_in_lochaber Hill Walking Routes
Hill walking in Scotland is key to rural and national economies. Walkhighlands website is the busiest walking site in the UK, with 400,000 unique visitors checking in each month. It was recommended by a number of NMU consultees as a good source to understand general outdoor access activity in the Central Section. Information originally supplied by Jacobs from PES data collation in CAD form. Verification (November 2014) of “informal routes” was checked against the following online mapping system, which identified a number of hillwalking routes (often for Corbetts and munros) in the Central Section:
http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/cairngorms/
CNPA Community Paths
As the access authority the Cairngorms National Park have defined and prepared information leaflets about walks in communities encouraging people to use local paths. Information originally supplied by Jacobs from PES data collation in CAD form.
Verification of (November 2014) of “informal routes” was checked against were checked against the following online sources (in areas that are more likely to be affected by the dualling):
http://cairngorms.co.uk/resource/docs/publications/11102012/CNPA.Paper.1850.Dalwhinnie%20Trails.pdf
http://cairngorms.co.uk/resource/docs/publications/22102012/CNPA.Paper.1852.Kingussie%20Paths.pdf
Informal Routes
Routes that consultees from DMRB Stage 1 have identified through A9 Dualling consultations. Information originally supplied by Jacobs from PES data collation in CAD form. Verification of (November 2014) of “informal routes” cross referenced PES consultation capture:
• Equestrian routes & crossing points – British Horse Society (January – March 2013)
• NMU routes & crossing points – Cairngorms National Park Authority (April 2013)
With additional CFJV consultations and supporting site visits:
• Walking Group Consultation, 28th November 2014 (A9 Programme wide)
• Access Officers meeting on 5th February 2015 (Central Section only)
• NMU Forum, 26th May 2015 (A9 Programme wide)
East Highland Way
The East Highland Way is a long distance walking route in Scotland that connects Fort William with the ski and mountain resort of Aviemore.
Information originally supplied by Jacobs from PES data collation in CAD form. Verification (November 2014) of “informal routes” was checked against the following online mapping system, which identified this important route:
http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/cairngorms/
Badenoch Way
An easy walking route from Insh Marshes towards Dalraddy along the Spey. Moderate and well trailed. Good for all ages.
Information originally supplied by Jacobs from PES data collation in CAD form. Verification (November 2014) of “informal routes” was checked against the following online mapping system, which identified this important route:
http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/cairngorms/
Speyside Way
The Speyside Way is one of four official Long Distance Routes in Scotland (the others are the West Highland Way, the Southern Upland Way and the Great Glen Way). It was first opened in 1981, to run from Spey Bay to Ballindalloch, with a spur to Tomintoul being added in 1990. A northern extension from Spey Bay to Buckie followed in 1999, with the route being further extended from Ballindalloch to Aviemore in April 2000. The route now links the Moray coast with the edge of the Grampian Mountains, generally following the valley of the River Spey. Plans are well advanced to complete the route to Newtonmore, though no date for opening this last section has yet been set. The Speyside Way is managed by the three Access Authorities along the route - the Moray Council, the Highland Council and the Cairngorms National Park Authority
Information originally supplied by Jacobs from PES data collation in CAD form. Verification (November 2014) of “informal routes” was checked against the following online mapping system, which identified this Nationally important route:
http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/cairngorms/
Scottish National Trail The Scottish National Trail is an 864 kilometre-long long distance walking route running the length of Scotland from Kirk Yetholm to Cape Wrath.
